All:
As you are aware, Governor Edwards has extended Phase 2 until August 7. This is in response to the continued spike of the coronavirus across Louisiana. After showing promise in mid-June, Louisiana has re-emerged as a global hotspot.
• LA is now 2nd in the nation, behind only New York City for cases/100k;
• LA is now 7th in the country for deaths/100k;
• LA is 6th in the number of cases in the last 7 days;
• LA is one of the White House Task Force 18 “red zones” along with every other state in the South Region;
• 35% of the new cases in Louisiana are in individuals younger than 29 years of age;
• Contact tracing has shown that 95% of the new cases are coming from “community spread”- large gatherings and social events.
To comply with the Governor’s proclamation and to be socially responsible given the statistics behind his decision, LSA has no choice but to continue Phase Two. We will continue to monitor not only the continuing rage of COVID-19 across our region and the Governor’s response to it, but also the response of the US Youth Soccer, US Soccer, the LHSAA and health-related organizations across the state.
We are aware there are other youth sports organizations that have chosen to act as if the dangers of COVID-19 pandemic have passed. They are in full swing with little or no precautionary protocols in place. Simply put, these organizations are not concerned with either the health of their participants or their families or with being socially responsible. By defying the Governor and ignoring the science, they are placing your families at risk. They are also teaching our children that they can pick and choose if and when to obey public health proclamations and that personal desire is more important than public good.
Thank you for your continued compliance, patience and diligence in confronting COVID-19.
