Spartans go 1-1 this weekend

Saturday:  2-0 Loss.  Dragon Speed 98/99 went up 2-0 early into the 1st half and the Spartans never found a way back into the game.  J.U. struggled to win 50-50 balls, battle physically, and never really caused too many problems vs. a very well-coached opposition.  Alan Aguirre and Edward May played excellent in the back and the scoreline could have been worse without them, along with a couple big saves from Andrew Kuzemczak.  Jake Malavet provided some dangerous play down the right wing towards the end of the game, but the offense never created many goal scoring chances.

Sunday:  3-1 Win.  J.U. got back to business today with a 3-1 win vs. Summit Rovers.  The first goal came from Jason Quiceno switching the ball to Adam Charles flying down the left wing.  Charles took a nice first touch and drove the ball into the back of the net.  The next goal started with a nice combination that started with a layoff from Kyle Barbosa to Alex Lyszyk, who played Charles over the top in behind the defense again.  Jason Berkowitz ended up with a solid strike on goal that the Summit goalkeeper couldn't hold on to. J.U. goalkeeper Matt Michalik made a point blank save from 5 yards out that was a huge play in the game.
Summit made the game interesting with a goal off a free kick to make it 2-1, but quickly Barbosa made it 3-1 with a nice flick to himself in behind the defense and a nice finish.  Steven Florez impacted the game as he provided some composure on the ball in the midfield.  Aguirre had a fantastic weekend and looks like he's found a new spot at right back, a position the team needed to fill badly.  Joey Velazquez's play on Sunday made the boys realize it may have been a different game on Saturday if he was in the back line.
